Terre Haute is a typical American town of about 100,000 persons in south west Indiana, about 200 miles south of Chicago and the Great Lakes (see the map below)

Location of Terre Haute in Indiana - USA (*RT)

Terre Haute is known as the Crossroads of America due to the number of roads and railway tracks which intercept in the town. The infamous bank robber John Dillinger declared that he would never rob Terre Haute as there were railroad tracks over every exit road and it was impossible to escape due to the number of trains constantly running through the town.
During the Frontier days it was known as Sin City due to the number of gambling joints and brothels in the town. These have long since gone as the town turned respectable.
Terre Haute's recent claim to fame is that it was the place where Timothy McViegh (the Oklahoma bomber) was executed on 11-Jun-2001 by lethal injection.
It is also a little known fact that the original hour glass shaped Coca Cola bottle was designed and made here by Roots Glass.
